Rates and credits used
- Income tax: 20% up to the standard rate cut-off point, 40% above it. Cut-off: €44,000 (single) or €53,000 (married or civil partners, one income).
- Tax credits: Single Person €2,000 or Married Person or Civil Partner €4,000, plus the Employee (PAYE) Tax Credit of €2,000, limited to 20% of income for very low earners.
- USC: 0.5% on the first €12,012, 2% on the next €16,688, 3% on the next €41,344 and 8% on the balance. No USC if income is €13,000 or less.
- PRSI (Class A employee): 4.2% until 30 September 2026 and 4.35% from 1 October 2026. No employee PRSI on weekly earnings of €352 or less, with a sliding PRSI credit between €352.01 and €424 a week.
How the figures are worked out
Each row uses the same calculation as our take-home pay calculator. PRSI is shown at the 4.35% rate in force since 1 October 2026, so the figures are an annualised run-rate for the current rate rather than a payslip total for the whole of 2026, when PRSI was 4.2% for the first nine months. Rows assume no pension contributions, no other credits, no benefits in kind and a full year in one PAYE job. The two-income couple case is not tabulated because the answer depends on how income is split; use the calculator for that.
These are estimates, not tax advice. Your payslip and Revenue are the authority. Budget 2027 changes announced in October 2026 are not included.
